INSPIRATION OF KYOTO

INSPIRATION OF KYOYO

Inspiration of Kyoto is an exchange program between French designers and Japanese companies based in Kyoto. Within this framework, I was selected to collaborate on two projects with renowned traditional manufacturers. The first collaboration was with Hiyoshiya, a maker of traditional Japanese umbrellas. I designed a lighting fixture composed of two inverted umbrellas, featuring hand-painted decorations inspired by the movement of waves on a black sand beach. The second project was developed with Katayama Bunzaburo, a historic Shibori textile manufacturer. I created a stool designed to hold a Shibori cushion, secured with a Kumihimo — a traditional Japanese braided cord — integrating textile craftsmanship into a minimal structural form. Both projects were exhibited in 2022 during Paris Design Week and the Nuit Blanche event in Kyoto. The work was honored with the French Design FD 100 award.
